Never Give Up

Ever heard of the term, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again?!?" This guy right here is the perfect example of that. He sent us his music a long time ago. We loved it, but he was really hard on himself. He's one of those artist who won't put out just anything. He wanted to wait until he had that hit song! This cat must have went and grounded 10 times as hard as he originally was because he came back with a song as dope as the first material he sent. Decyple is he name and he is one of those guys who's not in competition with anyone but himself! Definitely gonna be a great!

1. What's your stage name.

"Decyple" 2. How long have you been doing music?

"Man I wrote my first song in like 8th grade and it was super garbage. I used to like write, read what I wrote, and like make side notes to the side as if I was actually critiquing my work lmao. It was hot garbage but I just stuck with it and kept writing and got better. Eventually me & the homies started recording our shit with a $10 mic and audacity my junior year in highschool. After a bit, we all pitched in on a better one and nobody was really serious about it except for me and I've been doing it ever since. I'm now a freshman in college so I've been doing it for a few years." 3. What inspired you to start making music?

"I was always going through some stuff in my life, especially as a child, and always just felt like I needed to share and have people relate so I chose music as a way to vent. Music saved my life, that's such a cliche thing to say, but deadass I'd probably be in jail if I didn't decide to take this more seriously. I also wanted to do music because I saw what I was surrounded by and I was like man there's more to life than this small ass town. I need to do this for not only my family and I, but for the homies too. They need to be inspired as well."

4. Who do you look up to in the music industry? Why?

"I really look up to XXXTentacion. I know I'd probably get clowned for this, but the man had the worst tour ever and then turned around and dropped an amazing album. He's versatile and unique, you can't deny that. Another person I look up to is Russ. The man mixes, writes, and produces his own songs, it's hard to find that in the industry these days. I look up to him because like him, I engineer and write my own songs and I plan on getting into producing soon. There's obviously more but I can't think of too many right now."

5. Where are you from? What was it like growing up there?

"Now I live in Lubbock, Texas but I'm from a small town in North Texas called Vernon. That shit was always lame unless you were doing drugs, havin sex, or partying. Me & the homies used to skate and smoke, then we started moving into our bullshit which started getting us in trouble. Fighting, hitting licks, shit like that. After music came a long, I really just fell back off the bullshit and realized I wanted to further my academic career in case music didn't work out. But I wouldn't trade where I grew up for nothing. I know some amazing and beautiful people from my hometown and when I come through there, they always show me love."

6. What is your ultimate goal making music?

"My ultimate goal is to just have people relate and get through whatever problem they're going through. If I changed just 100 people's perspective on a situation, then I'm more than okay with that. But I really want to just help people and maintain humbleness while doing so. Music, whether it was a Nirvana record, or an Uzi record, all of it helps when I'm in need of a vibe or something."

7. What do you think of the music scene today and what could you contribute to it?

"The music scene today is obviously watered down. You have the mumble rap conversation and then you have the, "oh the old niggas just mad," convo as well. I really just want to break that barrier and unite hip hop as a genre, which is a bit unrealistic but not impossible. I have all kinds of styles. I can do a mumble rap record and then turn around and hop on a boom-bap and murder it. Check out my tape Black Caskets for proof of that. I'm not too worried about what other people are doing, if I'm on top of my shit and doing what I can for the genre and the culture, then I'm cool with it." 8. What are your thoughts on Donald Trump "Banning" the warriors from the White House?

"I'm not a big Warriors fan, I used to like the Clippers till Doc Rivers fucked the team up smh. To be honest, Trump is egotistical so I mean I can't say I'm surprised. Fuck him for doing Curry like that." 9. Do you have any celebrity crushes? If so, who? 👀

"Shiiiiiit don't even get me started. Zoe Saldana can get it, I know y'all see how good Paula Patton looks, gaaah damn. Anna Kendrick could get it too, I like white nerdy girls with fat titties."

10. Where can the people find your music? (Drop all social media links)

Yall can find my music at soundcloud.com/decyple My twitter and IG: @xdecyple Snapchat: Decyple 11. Tell us a little about your latest music. What was your inspiration? What was the process of making it? What's next for you?

"My latest project dropped on August 11th. My inspiration was very scattered. I had some influence from Cole, Russ, Young Dolph, Kendrick, Eminem, Madeintyo, Young Thug, Uzi, XXXTentacion, Smokepurpp, Pouya, Xavier Wulf, 6lack, Bryson Tiller, $teven Cannon (got him on for a song too), the list goes on. The process was a long one, I pretty much just knew I wanted to drop a project and give people a body of work. The tracklist turned out to be 20 songs and one skit. Right now I'm focusing on my singing ability, I plan on releasing a fire love song soon. I might drop a few singles and then announce a new body of work. At this very moment, I'm just going through college and finding beats, writing here and there. I'll have some new music out very soon."
